Fibromyalgia Possible Link to Gene of Type A Perfectionist Personality

This article is very interesting http://chronicfatigue.about.com/b/2012/03/19/personality-physiology-in-fibromyalgia-a-new-discovery.htm.  I consider myself a highly functional Fibro body.  I feel like I have very little time left to get “things” done as my body rapidly is deteriorating.  I spent Saturday afternoon lying down and most of Sunday too simply recovering from playing with horses and brushing/grooming, not riding.  It was my feet and hands that had shooting pains for a day and a half and my entire body was too heavy to carry around, I could barely walk.

Getting attacked by a horse 2 weeks ago landing me in urgent care was not what this Fibro body needed either.  The doc said basically I got hit by a 800 lb car.  I just noticed a bruise on Saturday in the mirror on my left hip that must have been deep because now it has risen to the surface and today I could hardly get out of my chair at work with a hitch in my gitalong.  I also found sore spots on the left side of my head last week and of course my neck on both sides is very inflamed.  Overall getting hit by an 800 lb horse “car” was not cool and he bit my shoulder too.

Out of this I “get it”, training horses is over, I got the message, I should not be training with this Fibro body while working a full time corporate job.  I need an exit strategy which my husband and I are now talking seriously about.  Exit I mean 3-5 years where do we want to be – sell the house and scale down, but how do I possibly say goodbye to my horses and my beautiful paradise, mountain trails boo hoo whine whine.  I’ll think of something.

In the meantime the Equine Support Center for Fibromyalgia is going strong with added Adaptogen Aromatherapy where you get to make your own personal Aroma blend that provides balance just for you, what your body needs.  I use a very fun scentful exercise that identifies the perfect blend of essential oils that brings homeostasis and balance.  Let me know how I can be of support to you.

Lots of love and hugs to all.

Fibromyalgia – Mad Men and the Debunk of the Dots

Had a doctor visit on Friday and she completely debunked my Mad Man “Connecting the Dots” to Fibromyalgia. My doctor has Fibromyalgia and says her mom lived in Calcutta on a fresh food farm, no exposure to toxins, no alcohol, no cigarettes giving birth to my doctor at the age of 18.5 y/o. Her mom did not move to the US until after my doctor’s birth.

The similarity between my fibro and my doc is she had 3 car accidents as a young woman with broken bones and neck injuries. That seems to be a common thread for most fibro sufferers, a traumatic accident with serious physical injuries. So no DOTS on the lifestyle of the 60′s and let me say I was not blaming my mom & yes I apologized to her and explained I don’t blame her for my fibro – doctors were God along with government at that time and DDT was an acceptable pesticide – it was the context of life and I’ll look back on what is acceptable today and cringe I’m sure.

So I’m back on the journey to the cause and how can I improve my quality of life living with Fibromyalgia. This has led me back to thyroid madness working with my doctor closely changing my treatment since the symptoms cross connect with fibro. Hopefully some relief may be in the future and I will share the progress.

BTW yes people use the excuse of Fibro to obtain prescription pain killers which is one of the biggest reasons Fibro has a stigma and people often delay diagnosis.  This is a serious misconception that fibro sufferers are drug abusers.  Also some believe the use of prescription pain pills is the cause of fibromyalgia.  I don’t have any evidence or research for that claim, however speaking for myself I did not have access to prescription pain pills until after my diagnosis so drug use was not the cause of my fibro.  Based on research it is likely my car accident that triggered my fibromyalgia.

How do horses support you?  How can they help you?  Having Fibromyalgia can leave you feeling hopeless, helpless, weak and depressed.  The thought of being around horses, grooming, petting, working and riding can be only a dream you think.  The thoughts that you think “no way” can deepen your sorrow, and drive you further into depression.  I want to reach out to you, horse owner, former horse owner, horse lover, always wanted to be around horses but never have, I am here to tell you that just because you have Fibromyalgia that doesn’t have to stop you.  I have methods and techniques that can help you.  I have discovered and developed ways that energize so you can enjoy horse time.  This goes beyond just relaxing and relieving stress, this is about empowerment and discovering  that you can love your body and it can work with you reconnecting to you wholly.  Let me explain.

One of the most important things we need to know when around horses is communication.  We must speak in herd language to be safer and to connect with a horse.  Herd language requires us to be aware of our bodies and working with mindfulness.

Using our bodies in a positive way, to communicate with a horse empowers us, makes us feel good about our bodies.  As Fibro sufferers we tend to despise our bodies, angry with our bodies for failing us, for being in pain and suffering us.  However when we can use our bodies to talk with a horse now our bodies are working with us.  We are having success as our horse listens and responds to our body as it speaks while under our control.  We are now one with our bodies and it is serving us.  How remarkable is it, our bodies are listening,  and a 1000 lb animal is moving and responding to what we are saying.  Our bodies are now ours and we can use them to our benefit.

Mindfulness is when we are aware of our thoughts and how that impacts our body language.  Our horses pick up on every little nuance of our bodies so we must be aware of our thoughts so we are not sending messages we don’t intend.  Mindfulness comes with practice.  Practice brings awareness and awareness grows from our minds to our bodies.  Once mindfulness becomes a mastery you will begin to notice how your thoughts can change how your body feels.  This is not to say that you can rid yourself of all your fibro pain, but when you are aware of negative thoughts and deliberately change them to a positive thought one by one you will notice that your body doesn’t feel as bad.  Mindfulness is a key to easing your body’s suffering and is necessary for successful communication with your body and the horse.

During my sessions I incorporate energizing methods to ready you for a splendid and feel-good time with a horse.  Reducing your trigger pain points and bringing in energy into your body in ways that are gentle and subtle will surprise and empower you.
